A seamless transition to VoIP for Loxton Installations

Client Overview

Loxton Installations Limited is a trusted electrical contractor specialising in industrial and commercial services across Kent and the surrounding counties.

Established in 1977, the business has grown from a two-person operation into a well-established provider with over 40 full time employees. Loxton has built a strong reputation for delivering reliable, high quality electrical solutions, on time and on budget.

Their expertise includes electrical design and installation, control panels and motor control centres, ATEX and COMPEX compliance, thermal imaging and testing, planned maintenance, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The Challenge

As a long-standing customer of Ryland Communications, Loxton Installations had been operating on a HiPath telephone system.

In 2023, this was successfully transitioned to digital SIP technology, ensuring compliance ahead of the 2027 PSTN and ISDN switch off. However, it was clear that a full move to a modern VoIP phone system would deliver greater flexibility and long-term scalability.

With an office move planned, this created the ideal opportunity to upgrade their communications infrastructure without disruption to the business.

The Solution

Ryland Communications worked closely with Loxton Installations to plan and deliver a smooth transition to a new VoIP platform.

The first step was ensuring the new site had a reliable connectivity foundation. A SoGEA connection was provisioned and installed, with our team attending site alongside Loxton staff to bring the service live and assess the setup for the new system.

With connectivity in place, we implemented a cloud-based VoIP solution using the 3CX platform. This removed the need for large on-site equipment while providing a modern, flexible system.

The solution was configured to mirror the functionality of the previous HiPath system, ensuring familiarity for users, while also introducing enhanced features to improve day to day operations.

Users were also given access to the 3CX app, enabling them to stay connected wherever they were working. Whether in the office, on site, or working remotely, staff could make and receive calls, transfer calls between colleagues, and communicate internally without being tied to their desks.

The platform also provides excellent scalability, allowing new users to be added quickly and easily as the business grows. Temporary users, such as contractors, can be brought onto the system for the duration of their work and removed just as easily, giving Loxton complete flexibility in how they manage their communications.

On the day of the office move, the transition to the new system was completed seamlessly, with no downtime experienced.

Following installation, user training documentation was provided to support immediate adoption, with further refinements made in the following days. These included updates such as customised user statuses and tailored call handling settings to match the specific needs of the business.

The Outcome

  • Seamless migration to a modern cloud-based VoIP system with zero downtime
  • Future ready communications aligned with the 2027 PSTN and ISDN switch off
  • Improved flexibility for office based, remote, and on-site staff via the 3CX app
  • Free internal calling between users, improving team communication and reducing costs
  • Ability to transfer and manage calls easily, even when away from the desk
  • Scalable system that grows with the business, including simple onboarding of new staff and contractors
  • Smooth user adoption supported by familiar functionality and clear training materials
  • Tailored system configuration to meet the specific operational needs of the business

Loxton Installations now benefits from a reliable, flexible and fully modernised communications platform, supporting a more connected and agile workforce both now and in the future.
